About the Program
English is a flexible program that explores literature across time, cultures and formats. You’ll study everything from classic novels and poetry to contemporary and global works, including innovative forms like film and graphic novels. As you read and analyze texts, including Indigenous, African Diasporas and Middle Eastern literatures, you’ll build strong skills in critical thinking, writing and problem solving. If you enjoy exploring ideas, stories and different perspectives, this program prepares you for a wide range of careers where clear thinking and communication matter.

Applied Learning Opportunities
English offers hands-on learning through Toronto’s vibrant literary and cultural scene. You can attend major events such as the Toronto International Festival of Authors and Word on the Street, gaining insight into contemporary writing and publishing. Live performances in drama and Shakespeare courses bring texts to life, while the Canadian Writers in Person series gives you the chance to engage directly with authors.
